console fails when using external power via VBUS.
I only see garbage characters on the console when using external power.
I have tried different minicom configurations and nothing works.

Hello, after testing, we did not identify the issue you described.
1. Please ensure a successful startup. Are the onboard LED lights blinking?
2. Have you flashed the official provided image?
3. Try reconnecting the USB cable, changing the USB cable and port, and reopening the serial debugging tool.

I am having the same issue. I am using a Mini B, with the December 28, 2023 Ubuntu image. I can connect via RNDIS, but if I use a serial adapter and give power to VBUS and open a serial console, then I can watch the entire boot sequence (which seems to be very slow), but never seem to get to a login prompt. I do sometime see an error that scrolls by very fast about an error with login.
I have remade my image multiple times, on different computers, using different SD cards, and tried two different boards.
I will note that I don't have anything connected to USB since I am powering externally, because I don't want RNDIS at att, and am trying to get to a login prompt so I can disable it

Yes that is correct
Hello, it has been tested that MINI B can start the UBUNTU system normally with an external power supply. If it can start normally through USB power supply but not VBUS, it is recommended to check whether the external power supply meets the power supply requirements.

Yes that is correct
Hello, it has been tested that MINI B can start the UBUNTU system normally with an external power supply. If it can start normally through USB power supply but not VBUS, it is recommended to check whether the external power supply meets the power supply requirements.

Thank you for getting back to me. I am using an Adafruit FTDI adaptor which can provide 500ma at 5V. As I recall the requirements for the mini B is 40ma. So yes my power supply is sufficient
